Luke 1:1-4
[1] In as much as many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the things that have been accomplished among us, [2] just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word have delivered them to us, [3] it seemed good to me also, having followed all things closely for some time past, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, [4] that you may have certainty concerning the things you have been taught.
1. Which Gospels have you spent the most time in? What do you anticipate God showing you through Luke?
2. How does the first line portray a vibrant background of Jesus proclamation? What questions do you have as we begin Luke?
3. What role does Luke give to eyewitness testimony? Where do we see this elsewhere in the New Testament?
4. How does Luke use the language of a historian in v. 3? What effect do these words collectively have on the reader?
5. What is Luke’s purpose in writing? How does this guide our reading of the rest of the book?
